Cleaning an aluminum boat is not as challenging as it seems. With the right products on hand, it can be simple and even – gasp! – enjoyable. You may have read our Simple Guide to Cleaning Aluminum Boats and How to Clean an Aluminum Boat Trailer, but here we take the process one step further. Read on to find out how to clean an aluminum boat.
Wash your aluminum boat
Cleaning an aluminum boat starts with cleaning the accumulated dirt and grime off the exterior of the bull and surfaces. As aluminum is metal, the surface can get too hot to touch, so it is best to do this on a day that is less hot. Think early spring or late fall before winter storage. Wash your aluminum boat with a gentle soap solution. We recommend using our Boat Cleaner. It is gentle enough to lightly wash your aluminum boat’s exterior, including its hull, and won’t cause damage or corrosion to the metal itself. Simply dilute the solution with water, apply with a soft sponge or brush, scrub, and wash off with water.
Apply a dedicated aluminum cleaner
Next, it is imperative to polish aluminum to protect it from harmful UV ray damage, oxidation, and to keep it shiny and clean. Aluminum likes to shine, so using a dedicated aluminum cleaner will ensure that it shines brightly. BoatLIFE®’s Aluminum Cleaner, available in a 16-ounce jar, is all you need to complete this task. This low-micron cleaner will brighten, polish, and protect any aluminum surface, including aluminum boats, pontoons, and aluminum hulls. Aluminum Cleaner can be applied by hand or with a buffing pad. Remember, aluminum will naturally oxidize, so it is important to always use a dedicated aluminum cleaner to thoroughly clean the metal itself and to protect it from further oxidation.
