Charleston Sightseeing by Boat

Charleston sightseeing by boat

We all know that Charleston is one of the top tourist destinations in the US, especially during the summer. Charleston was just named the #1 city in the US by Travel + Leisure magazine. There are endless things to do in Charleston on foot, but did you know that there are just as many things to do and see by boat? Here’s just a few!

What’s Around

So you’ve just filled up your gas tank, put on your sunscreen and pulled up the anchor. Where to? You are no doubt surrounded by all the Southern Charm that Charleston is known for. And looking around, you are probably seeing the multitude of church steeples rising high above the buildings, giving Charleston it’s nickname the “Holy City”. Hungry? Plug Shem Creek into your GPS and head towards the Waterfront District. With ample boat docking and a variety of bars and restaurants on the water, stroll down the boardwalk. There is something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds at Shem Creek. One of the biggest draws of the area is the Charleston Harbor, an eight-mile Atlantic Ocean inlet. It’s formed by the junctions of the Cooper, Ashley and Wando Rivers and parts of the intercoastal waterway. Are you a history buff? The harbor is also home to Fort Sumter, where the Confederacy fired the infamous first shot of the American Civil War. Looking for something more laid back? Take a sunset cruise in the harbor and catch the stunning sunset by the Ravenel Bridge. Whatever you prefer, Charleston is a boating mecca with endless activities and places to see!
