How to Choose a Boat Sealant

Choosing the correct boat sealant may seem stressful, but it needn’t be. Here are some helpful steps you can take to select the right boat sealant for the job.

Step 1: Identify your Substrates

This may seem obvious but sometimes it is not. You need to first know what you are caulking before you can choose the right boat sealant. Are you caulking fiberglass to wood, aluminum, glass, or to itself? Check if you are unsure, then consult our handy Sealant Chart, available in English and translated into French.

Step 2: How much (or little) movement is needed?

Are you sealing two substrates that are at a joint, which will require dexterity and movement? Or are you sealing two substrates that will be fixed and not move? It is helpful to know both.

Step 3: Will your caulking need to have a neutral cure?

Not sure what a neutral cure is, or why it is important? Read our blog on The Importance of Neutral Curing When Choosing a Boat Sealant.
