One of our boat maintenance products, Life-Calk®, is a long lasting, permanently flexible marine polysulfide caulk which can be sanded, painted* and can be used above and below the waterline. Life-Calk® is a moisture curing system and under the ideal conditions will be tack-free in 1-3 days, and fully cured in 7-10 days. This product provides excellent resistance to teak oils, gasoline and diesel fuel. Life-Calk® is versatile and will bond to fiberglass, wood, metal, glass and itself. When cured, it will form a flexible rubber seal with excellent waterproofing and adhesion qualities. For emergency boat repair situations, Life-Calk® can be applied underwater for repairs, and can also be applied to damp surfaces. It’s perfect for use on teak decks, hull hardware, seal thru-hull fittings and underwater seams. Life-Calk® comes in Mahogany, Teak Brown, White, Black and Grey.** Our formula is the only polysulfide boat caulk with an excellent performance record since 1959.
How To Prep Your Area:
The first thing you need to do is remove the old caulking on your boat. Cut along the caulk seam as close to the surface as you can on both sides. Next, you need to lift and pull the caulking out. Be sure to check for any remaining caulking fragments after you remove the old caulk. To ensure you get the best results when applying the new caulk, use a brush or vacuum to get any remaining fragments out, and use our Solvent & Cleaner to remove any residual oil, grease or dirt. Having a clean surface will help you get a perfectly adhering caulk seam that has the potential to last for many years.
Pro Tip: Boat Caulking Like a Pro
- When using a caulking gun, apply caulk by “pushing” the caulking gun to avoid air pockets.
- Temperature and humidity are the main factors that determine curing time.
- Avoid freezing.
- Do not store above 90°F
