Boat Wax Cleaning: 3 Products You Absolutely Need

You think you know everything there is to know about waxing
because you do it on your car—but if you’re working with a boat, it’s another
story entirely. Boats have unique needs.

But that doesn’t mean you want to spend the better part of a
Saturday afternoon doing nothing but cleaning, washing, and buffing away.
Fortunately there’s a simpler way to achieve a clean coat of wax on your boat
without bending over backwards, and it involves knowing which products to buy
to make life easy on yourself. Here are our recommendations:

#1: Fiberglass Rubbing Compound

screen-shot-2015-12-09-at-4.53.31-pm.pngWe know what you’re thinking. You just want to wash and wax
your boat—you don’t want to go through all of these unnecessary steps!
Fortunately, that’s not what we’re recommending at all. What we’re recommending
is using this Fiberglass Rubbing Compound before waxing because it doesn’t only
remove oxidation and stains, but it will restore the fiberglass finish and
prepare it for a good waxing. Think of it as “pre-wax”…but pre-wax that does a
lot more than what you’d typically expect.

Because most of your boat’s exterior is likely made from
fiberglass, you’re going to need to know how to handle it. That means having
the right product on hand to ensure you’re not only preparing your boat for a
good waxing, but that you’re cleaning and restoring the fiberglass itself as
part of your waxing routine. This will keep your boat looking new, healthy, and
clean. And that’s before you apply even a dollop of wax.

#2: LifeWax

boatlife-lifewax.pngNecessary for the process of waxing, of course, a quality
boat wax will help restore your boat’s original shine while protecting it from some
UV rays. LifeWax is easier to use than the average boat wax, however, thanks to
its no-buff-necessary application. You simply apply it, spread it around, and wipe off, and
ignore all of those online advertisements that tell you to rent or buy power buffers
for your boat. After all, you’ve got better things to do with your Saturday
afternoon than buff your boat until your hands are raw.

#3: Graphix Wax

graphix-wax-16oz.jpgConsider this one
optional—as the title suggests, it’s designed for boat graphics. If your boat
has no graphics, great—then you’re good to go. But if your boat does have
custom graphics that need special protection and you don’t want to lose out on your investment…well, there’s
only one way to go. This Graphix Wax will not harm graphics due to a solvent free formula and it will clean while
simultaneously applying the UV protectant you need to keep your graphics out of
harm’s way. That means preventing discoloration and fading over time—and
keeping the original sheen of those custom graphics as full and lush as
possible.

You might only need two of these products, but if you need
all three, you’ll be happy to know that your next cleaning and waxing doesn’t
have to be an ordeal. It can be simple, easy, and—well, we’d throw around the
term “fun,” but even we can’t make waxing your boat fun. That part’s up to you.
