Boat Repair Putty

The point of Boat Repair Putty is to fix something that’s broken, but that doesn’t mean the
process itself can’t be easy, or even a little fun. But in order for that fun
to take place, you’re going to have to make sure that you have the right repair
putty: the putty that will actually do its job with minimal complications.

How do you know that? Look for these five qualities in your
next boat repair putty purchase:

  • Curing
    underwater.
This is, after all, a boat we’re talking about. It’d be nice if
you had the time to keep your boat out of water for a full cure, but it’s
better to have putty that can handle exposure to the water. Curing underwater
doesn’t offer any special curing properties except that it’s a heck of a lot
more convenient—and when working with repair putty, convenience usually means
it saves a heck of a lot of time and energy in the process.
  • Getting
    along with boat materials.
By “getting along,” we mean finding boat repair
putty that can bond to fiberglass, wood, metal, glass, and concrete. A boat is
made up of more than just one material; if your repair putty is going to pull
its weight and justify its cost, it’s going to have to be able to pull
double-duty. Make sure to read the label to see the materials with which your putty can bond.
  • Heat
    tolerance.
A boat is a dynamic environment. You never know when exposure to
heat will occur. Look for a repair putty that can handle a thermic load of up
to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, or 149 degrees Celsius, as this will give you a wide
range of “thermal latitude” when dealing with a boat repair.
  • Strength.
You need resilience in your boat putty, and that means more than just a strong
bond. Your putty should be able to tolerate gasoline, alcohol, oil, and salt
water oxidation. After all, putty that can’t handle salt water isn’t going to
be very useful if all you do is ride your boat around in…salt water.
  • Affordability.
Finally, no repair putty should fill a hole in your boat and then create a new
    hole in your wallet.

Luckily, we’ve done all the shopping for you. You can find
all of these qualities in our 3 oz. Fix Repair Putty
as well as our 16 oz.Fix Repair Putty. They’re tough, they apply like putty, and they cure like
steel. That leaves you with less worry…and more time to enjoy the process of
boat repair. After all, it is fun to
use—when it works. And Fix Repair Putty works, in more ways than one.
